Intro
Alba Patera is a colossal volcanic feature on Mars, characterized by a central 100-kilometer-diameter caldera encircled by a fracture ring. This volcanic complex spans approximately 1,200 kilometers in diameter, making it one of the largest volcanoes in the Solar System. Despite its vast expanse, Alba Patera only rises about 6 kilometers in height. Located directly north of the Tharsis bulge, which is Mars' most active volcanic region, Alba Patera is associated with fault-bound graben formations. These graben extend southward into the Tharsis bulge, likely formed through a combination of the Tharsis bulge's uplift and concurrent magma upwelling within Alba Patera.
